Handmade in Mangawhai – we are proud of the talented team of crafters behind this special brand. This stock is produced by a group of generous women who love spending time together, and donate all funds raised by their creations back to the museum. If you’re looking for something unique, made in a magical place, and like the idea of your money also helping support a great little museum, Handmade in Mangawhai is the product line for you. Their usual stock includes uber-popular craft packs, cushion covers, knitted little plushies, crocheted dishcloths, bookmarks, dolls, wooden peg people, and lollipop novelties. Items on offer change with the seasons and holidays, and include a huge Christmas offering featuring decorations, Christmas aprons and tea towels, gift boxes, vintage fabric bunting, wreaths, food goodies to tempt the tastebuds and much, much more.
Jewellery – we stock a wide range of jewellery items from around Aotearoa NZ, much of which is very affordable, modern, and distinctly Kiwi.
Art – we feature work from different local artists from time to time as their production allows, both in card form and some prints. These include the bright and bold prints by Jo May, the softer floral and botanical works of Christina Maassen, and the abstract elegance of Jocelyn Friis.
Cards – we are known for our wide range of local handmade cards for all occasions. We stock the very popular Artearoa range of photographic and botanical print cards, the Pikitea postcard range, and art print cards by a wide range of NZ artists. If you are looking for a card that is a little bit different, come and have a look at our selection.
Pottery/Ceramics/Bamboo & Wood products – The range of Jo Luping designed dishes and jugs are very popular as gifts and come in a range of colours, shapes and sizes. We also stock the very popular bamboo plates and mugs from DQ and items custom-made at our request by the Mangawhai Shed.
For the young ones, the shop has a wide range of children’s toys and novelties from puzzles, games and science experiments, to the extremely popular Honeysticks range of bath and regular crayons and bath drops to provide bath time fun – all made from natural materials. Much of our children’s stock is linked to current special exhibitions in the Museum and to the themes of the Museum’s holiday programmes. We also source a number of those old fashioned games parents and grandparents may remember from their own childhood. If you are looking for a gift for the young ones in your family, you are sure to find something to please.
Kiwiana & Souvenirs – everything from key rings to magnets, postcards to bag tags – you are bound to find a souvenir or two in the shop to remind you of NZ or to brighten up your life.
Books – the Museum History Group has produced its own set of books from the archives which tell the stories of Mangawhai’s history and people. These are unique gifts, available only through our Museum shop. We also stock a range of other titles, some by local authors, that focus on local events or which tie in with the themes of our museum displays.
And more! People also come in for our puzzles, plant-bags, magnets, bags, scarves, T-shirts, coaster, and placemats.
